Bankruptcy – Chapter 7
Get help toward a fresh start to your new financial life with Chapter 7 in Wisconsin. Maxwell Attorneys LLC are ready to help you.
Chapter 7 Bankruptcy is sometimes referred to a “fresh start” bankruptcy because you will normally discharge or wipe out all your outstanding debt. Debt that is commonly eliminated in a Chapter 7 case includes:
- Credit card debt
- Medical bills
- Personal loans
- Payday loans
- Signature loans
- Department store cards
- Balances owed on cars that were surrendered or repossessed.
Chapter 7 Bankruptcy does not eliminate all debt:
- Secured loans on your home or your car won’t be eliminated if you want to keep that property.
- Recent tax debt
- Child Support or Alimony
- Student loans
- Fines or municipal tickets
Under the new bankruptcy laws passed by Congress in 2005, in order to qualify to file a Chapter 7 bankruptcy you must pass an income “means test.” Also, you may only file a Chapter 7 case once every 8 years.
